Neurofeedback / Biofeedback

Neurofeedback and Biofeedback create accountability

Sensors record the individual's responses to the training, providing objective feedback and allowing the individual to make adjustments accordingly. John W Steinert, PT, founder of SIRRI says "When you get the client actively involved in the process, and when they understand what it "feels" like to pay attention or what it "feels" like to breathe appropriately, it is a very powerful learning tool. The learning is rapid and goals are more easily achieved. SIRRI is all about integration, using different technologies and strategies in very innovative ways. Our success comes from being innovative and leveraging existing technologies and strategies to help our clients. Neurofeedback and Biofeedback are examples of those technologies."
SIRRI uses different types of programs to accomplish different goals. Shown below is one of the technologies used to train attention skills.

A brain map, or QEEG, is an evaluative tool used to obtain objective analysis of a client's brain waves. Shown below is an example of a brain map, which provides the clinician a "road map" of the client's individual needs and helps direct their overall treatment intervention.

Different technologies allow different implementation strategies:

Depending on the individual needs and goals of the client a success based protocol will be designed, using various technologies and strategies. The objective is to help the client achieve their goals in the most efficient and effective way possible.

Custom Biofeedback and Neurofeedback protocols:

EMG - muscle tension awareness
HRV - Heart Rate Variability Training
Neurophysiological Training
Diaphragmatic Breathing/Relaxation Training
Brain mapping / QEEG analysis and interpretation
Stress reduction

How can this help my child?
  • Help to address reading comprehension problems, and improves the ability to absorb what is being said or auditory comprehension
  • Help to improve/reduce the amount of time it takes to complete a task i.e. schoolwork, homework or daily chores, so it does not take hours when it should only take minutes
  • Improve upon impulse control, so the client is able to internally and externally exhibit self-control when impulses emerge
  • Improve on behaviors i.e. which are often used to describe "anti-social" behavior
  • Assist with correcting listening skills so it is easier to listen attentively to others
  • Help to alleviate the need to fidget or move the body so sitting still for more than a few seconds at a time isn't such a struggle or conscious effort
  • Facilitate better organizational and memory skills
  • Promote and improve upon the ability to follow step-by-step instructions
  • Improve overall family dynamics by alleviating sudden outbursts or tantrums

The goal is to help each client recognize their own abilities and provide the tools necessary to apply these behaviors and skills to everyday real-life situations.
